What roof scaffolding is for
Roof scaffolding gives a safe working platform at eaves level, with guardrails and toe boards so tools and people can't go over the edge. It's what roofers need for:
- Re-roofing and tile or slate replacement
- Gutters, fascias, soffits and bargeboards
- Flat roof replacements and dormer work
- Roof windows and solar panel installation
- Leadwork and flashing
For chimney work we extend the scaffold up to the stack. See chimney scaffolding.
Why ladders aren't enough
The Work at Height Regulations expect the safest practical access for the job. For anything more than a quick, light inspection, that means a proper working platform with edge protection. Good roofers won't work without one, and insurers expect it.
Designed for your house
Every roof scaffold is designed for the property: the height to the eaves, the ground it stands on, and whether it can go on your drive or needs to stand on the pavement. Where it needs to sit on a public footpath, we apply for the council licence. Our scaffolding licence guide explains how that works.

Questions about roof scaffolding
Do I need scaffolding to replace a few roof tiles?
Often, yes. Unless the roof can be reached safely from a low platform, a small scaffold or tower is the safe and insured way to do it. We'll tell you honestly at the survey.
Can the scaffold stay up between trades?
Yes. Most roof jobs involve roofers, then perhaps gutters or decorating. We agree the hire period up front and can extend it.
Can you scaffold over a conservatory or extension?
Yes. We bridge over conservatories and flat roofs so the scaffold doesn't rest on them.
