Temporary roof scaffolding
A temporary roof keeps the rain off while the real roof is stripped, rebuilt or repaired, so your trades keep working and the building below stays dry. We design, sheet and install temporary roofs for homes and commercial buildings across South London.

When you need a temporary roof
If a roof is going to be open for more than a day or two, a temporary roof is usually cheaper than the damage one storm can do. We fit them for:
- Full re-roofs, where the old covering and battens come off
- Loft conversions and dormers, where the roof structure is opened up
- Fire, storm or water damage, where the building needs protecting fast (see emergency scaffolding)
- Commercial refurbishments that can't stop for bad weather
How a temporary roof is built
The temporary roof sits on top of a full perimeter scaffold. Beams span the building and carry a pitched or mono-pitch frame, which is sheeted and tied down. The sides can be sheeted too, fully encapsulating the building to keep weather out and dust and debris in.
Because a temporary roof catches the wind like a sail, it has to be designed for the site. We assess the span, the height, how exposed the building is, and where the scaffold can be tied in. One example: a four-sided temporary roof we built for a building contractor kept an extension dry through a whole winter, with reinforced beams and secure tie-in points.
Keeping the job running
- Work carries on in rain, so your programme doesn't slip
- Timber, insulation and plaster stay dry
- Neighbours and the street are protected from falling debris
- Inspected every 7 days and after high winds
Pair a temporary roof with roof scaffolding for the edge protection your roofers need. If you're a homeowner, see residential scaffolding for how we look after your property.
Questions about temporary roof scaffolding
How long does it take to put up a temporary roof?
It depends on the size of the building and the design, so we confirm it at the survey. The perimeter scaffold usually goes up first, then the roof frame and sheeting.
Can a temporary roof go on a terraced house?
Yes. On terraces we design the roof to span just your property, tying in so it doesn't load your neighbours' roofs.
Is a temporary roof safe in high winds?
It's designed for wind loading, tied in and inspected. We check it after storms and adjust sheeting if needed.
